One thing you could do to be obsessive is boil water, RAPIDLY chill to 155°F, dissolve the gelatin crystals, RAPIDLY chill to 130°F, then proceed with the cannon. There is always room to obsessively take things further in this hobby. Why rapidly chill? Tests have shown oxygen dissolved back into water at nearly the rate it naturally cools, so you want to get ahead of the dissolution with a fast filling rate. Or take it yet another step further by rigging something to chill the water in an inert gas-only environment.
